The group stage of the Pro Gamers League Summer Finals has seen both attending European teams defeat local Chinese powerhouses TyLoo and VG.Cyberzen and advance to the grand final.
Slated for July 22-24 in the city of Wuhan, China, the PGL Summer 2016 Finals feature six Chinese teams and two European teams in attendance for a $100,000 prize pool.
The group stages of the event transpired yesterday (two groups of four teams in a round robin, best-of-one format) and it was both invited European teams, X and Epsilon, who topped their groups with 3-0 records with both teams scoring wins over local heavyweights VG.CyberZen and TYLOO respectively.
In addition, TyLoo tied an unexpected match against eFuture on Mirage and thus narrowly edged out of Group B by only one point.
Friis and Team X rolled over TyLoo in their semifinal match
The first semifinal of the event was thus between Group A winner X and Group B runner-up TYLOO, and it was a confident 2-0 victory for the Danish-Swedish team as Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer and Michael "Friis" Jørgensen managed to rout China's best team 16-10 on Mirage and 16-9 on Train.

The second semifinal was meanwhile between Epsilon and VG.CyberZen and the Swedes quickly claimed Cache 16-4 (VG.CyberZen's map pick) with William "draken" Sundin leading the way for his team.
tb's VG.CyberZen took a map off Epsilon in their semifinal
Widely considered China's second best team, VG managed to fight back on Overpass due to a stellar defense on their CT-side, and claimed a 16-7 win on the second map (Epsilon's pick). The third map was Nuke and a superior 13-2 CT-side from Epsilon quickly helped seal the match with an eventual score of 16-8.
